Official Apex Reviews Interview: E.L. Rhodes (A Flaming Rose)
Apex Reviews: Thanks for joining us for this interview, E.L. We're looking forward to learning more about your book.
Most writers place small pieces of themselves into their characters. Which characters in your book do you most identify with, and why?
E.L. Rhodes: I would have to say that Melvin has my sense of humor, Dave has my laid back attitude about life and Marie has my sex drive. Seriously though, I try to find laughter in all aspects of my life and I try not to let the little things get to me.
AR: Many publishers look for characters in books that could potentially carry over to future tomes. What's next for Melvin? Do you see him continuing his escapades?
ELR: I had previously thought that the story A Flaming Rose was complete. However, I have received many requests for more. After giving it some thought, I definitely see a sequel.
Having just completed my next novel, The Serialization of Discontent, I am working on my newest novel, The Meeting Place.
The sequel to A Flaming Rose will come along after that. There are definitely future adventures ahead for Melvin and his buddies.
AR: What kinds of reactions have you gotten to the book thus far?
ELR: I have received positive reviews. Ever yone who has read the book told me that they really enjoyed the read. They tell me all the time about how funny it was and they all want to know when the sequel is coming out.
It's still unbelievable sometimes that what started out as just a story in my head years ago has finally come to fruition as A Flaming Rose, and that it was so welcomed.
Writing is and always has been something I've always enjoyed and I'm happy that I could share it with everybody. This is definitely one of the greatest accomplishments in my life.
AR: Which authors have had the greatest influence on your writings?
ELR: I wouldn't say any one author because I have so many favorites. And as you can see, my writing style definitely does not mirror any author I have read.
AR: Please share more with our readers about your company, Rhodes Publishing.
ELR: Being that this is my first foray into writing, I partly self-published. However, I have shared my experience and knowledge with many others. I am toying with the idea of becoming a publisher to help other first time writers.
AR: Care to share a little about your upcoming release, The Serialization Of Discontent?
ELR: The Serialization of Discontent is definitely different from A Flaming Rose. It still shares some of the humor from my first novel, but it has a different flavor altogether. I am not a subject matter expert on murder and I had to delve into some dark places. Although this is not a comedy, I still think that my readers will enjoy the story.
AR: What are your future writing/publishing aspirations?
ELR: As I mentioned before, I am currently working on my next novel, The Meeting Place and I already have an outline for the sequel to A Flaming Rose, for which I have yet to name. I am also working jointly with different people on other projects, one of which will be a children's book.
AR: Will you be appearing at any upcoming events that you'd like our readers to know about?
ELR: I will be at Fort Belvoir on June 30, 2008, July 11, 2008, and August 1, 2008 for book signings. Come on out and get a personally autographed copy of A Flaming Rose!
AR: How can people learn more about your writings and other efforts?
ELR: They can reach me at ELRhodes@elrhodesbooks.com or they can visit my website, www.elrhodesbooks.com.
AR: Any final thoughts you'd like to share with our readers?
ELR: I just want to thank everybody for taking time out of their busy day to share my story. T ime is the most precious gift anyone can give and I thank you for sharing yours with me.
AR: Thanks again, E.L., and best of continued success to you in all your endeavors!
